Support Cops for Kids with Cancer

Cops for Kids with Cancer“Boston 2010” promises to be a venue laden with celebrations honoring the prestigious 75 year history of the National Academy and its graduates.  We will reminisce of our times in Quantico and the traditions that each session experienced.  Some will remember the Yellow Brick Road fondly, while for others the Boardroom brings a smile to your face.  The committee in Boston wants to build upon those wonderful traditions and create new ones that we hope will continue for the next 75 years!

While at the FBI Academy, most sessions took part in the traditional Silent Auction to benefit a charity of their choice.  This year in historic Boston, we hope that custom will become extended to our national conferences.  We have picked a recipient charity, “Cops for Kids with Cancer” that embodies what our mission in law enforcement is- “to protect and serve”.   Oftentimes, people refer to people in law enforcement as heroes and while that may be true in many cases, we chose this profession knowing the dangers we would face.  These children are the true heroes because each day they get up and battle an enemy they can’t see and they do it with such strength of heart, mind and body!

Cops for Kids with CancerCopsforKidswithCancer.org is a non profit, strictly volunteer organization whose primary mission is to directly help families travelling this unimaginable road.  Referrals come to the organization thru local, state and federal law enforcement personnel all over Massachusetts and past recipients have used these funds to make mortgage payments, purchase gasoline, buy a four year old battling the disease a swing set, parking and so many other worthy reasons.  For those few minutes in time, the stress is lifted off their shoulders and we have “protected and served” this family.

“Boston 2010” will host the first annual “Silent Auction” on Saturday, July 24th, 2010 and we need your help.  We would love for anyone attending the conference to bring an item or two to be auctioned at this event.  Some ideas might be items from your favorite professional or collegiate sports teams, local items of interest from your jurisdiction, or donated pieces of jewelry, IPODS, Play Station systems…the list is endless.  For more information, please email Helena Findlen (hfindlen@town.canton.ma.us) or Thomas O’Donnell (todonnell@admin.umass.edu)

The CFCWC emblem is a child sitting atop a dragon, obviously elated that he was victorious in his battle to overtake its strength, insidious character and seemingly insurmountable size!  Your anticipated contributions to this charitable foundation are symbolic of the sword in the child’s hand.  He uses it to slay the dragon, thereby regaining a sense of safety, control and victory.  It is our hope that the monetary gifts we give these families will help them to experience those same emotions, if even for a little while.

In closing, I would like to draw your attention to the solid blue line encompassing the scene of the child and dragon.  The continuity of the outline takes the shape of a police badge which obviously is worn on the heart of all law enforcement officers in America and throughout the world.  It is a constant reminder of our commitment to “protect & serve” all members of society, but most importantly, the youngest and most vulnerable within it!

Thank You
Your “Boston 2010” Committee
